U.G.C schemes Undertaken by the college


Equal Opportunity Center: The equal opportunity center for SCs, STs, OBCs, minority and women was set up in the academic session 2011-12 with fund received from the University Grants Commission (U.G.C). The center functions to ensure equal opportunities for students belonging to the underprivileged section of the society. A short term course was organized under the aegis of the center in the last academic session and similar courses will be conducted in the future for the benefit of the students.


Remedial Coaching for SCs, STs, OBC and Minorities: The college has the provision for remedial coaching for students belonging to the SCs, STs, OBC and minority category. The remedial coaching is run with fund received from the University Grants Commission (U.G.C) and it was started in the academic session 2011-12. The remedial coaching enables the students to get academic assistance regarding their syllabus outside the regular classroom teaching.


Entry into service for SCs, Sts, OBC and Minorities: The U.G.C scheme for entry into service for SCs, STs, OBCs and minorities was launched in the academic session 2011-12 to provide academic assistance and coaching to the students to help them prepare for various competitive examinations. This scheme is particularly beneficial for the students in the final year of the undergraduate course and it helps them prepare for their career.


Computer Training: A computer training programme was conducted in the college by a renowned government institute for the students, teachers and non-teaching staff in the previous academic session. The college’s objective is to make every student computer literate and steps will be taken in the forthcoming academic session to arrange computer training programmes for the students.


Achievements in the past academic year: Some students of the college have performed exceptionally well in the University examination. Akhtarun Nahar, a student of the Department of Bengali has scored 62.38 marks in the B.A Examination. Many students of Department English have scored above 55% marks in University examination. Arun Kanti Mistri, a student of the Department of English participated in the Inter-State Youth Exchange and Home stay programme by Karnataka State open University in Bangalore. Some of our students in Hons. Streams of Bengali, English, Eco. & History have performed exceptionally well in university exams in past academic years.

We are fortunate enough to issue Post Metric Scholarship to the meritorious students of Minority Communities of our college awarded by West Bengal Minorities Developments A Finance corporation, A statutory corporation of Govt. of West Bengal. In 2014-15 two new stories of the college building will be3 inaugurated.


Withdrawal and Transfer Certificate: If a student wishes to withdraw his name from the college rolls, he will have to inform the Principal at least a week before the date; he will have to secure clearances from the departments and the Library of the college, and these are to be attached to the application form. The student will have to pay all the college fees including that for the month in which the Transfer Certificate is issued. Admission to any other educational institutions will remain invalid until a proper Transfer Certificate has been obtained.


In the coming academic year the college aims at the following:

1. To arrange for enhanced library facilities by increasing the number of books to 17000 (approx).
2. To improve environment in and around the college, to make it more eco-friendly and congenial for learning by plantation of trees.
3. To have new general subjects affiliation like Computer Science and Geography from the academic year 2014-15.
4. The renovation of the Computer Laboratory has been done with the installation of new furniture and eighteen computers with higher configuration having the latest technology.
5. The renovation of the office is complete with new furniture and seven Computers with higher configuration which have been networked with a server in the Principal’s room through LAN, to install multi-user software in order to computerize the entire office work.
6. Installation of (LAN connected new computers in the library with internet connectivity is complete together with the software package, named library Information System for the students and the Library staff members. The library has also been equipped with more furniture in order to accommodate huge number of books.
7. The renovation of the teacher’s room has been done by furnishing it with three new computers having internet facility, a printer and a photo-copier machine.
8. The Principal’s room has been renovated with the installation of the sever of the LAN connection.
9. Arrangement of Ladies Common Room, new Students Union Room, Canteen, Cycle-shed, Laboratories for Vocational courses are also undertaken.
10. Water purifiers and water coolers have been installed for students.
